Curio Bay to Bluff

We spend half day the next morning looking for hector dolphins! The Porpoise Bay (which is just next to Curio Bay) is frequented by hector dolphins, the smallest and rarest dolphins in the world, found only in the west coast of South Island and Southland of NZ! We saw one of them surfing the waves but haven't got our camera ready. They are so playful, swimming in the waves, having a good time. But they are so difficult to capture... They have white belly, and rounder dorsal fins and beaks as compared to the common dolphins. We had a good time searching for animals in Curio & Porpoise Bay for sure!

Wondering around Porpoise Bay, very big waves~~

Slope Point, the southernmost point of NZ's South Island

The southernmost point and the windiest point!! Look at these windswept trees... As if we are in a giant talking trees moview =D

Bluff
Bluff is at the end of a peninsula that forms the western side of Bluff Harbour and Awarua Bay, with the port located in the relatively narrow entrance channel. It is on State Highway 1(which traverses the entire length of NZ from most northern Cape Reinga to Stirling Point, Bluff). At Stirling Point there is a signpost showing the distance and direction to various major cities and locations around the world, including the Equator and the South Pole. Bluff is also well known for its Bluff Oyster!

From Bluff, we plan to take the ferry to the most southern island of NZ where our next adventure begins.. That night we stayed at Bluff camping ground which runs on honesty system. $13.80 pp for nonpower site. Very nice campsite with good facilities and laundry included in the site fees.
