Hahndorf German Village & Journey to Mt Gambier

Bidding farewell to Jim&Winnie, it's time to move on. We have been spending a lot of money in Adelaide, with the coffee, delicious cakes, chinese food and shopping! Hehe.

But it was not a great start of the day, with Peter breaking his IPAD. Goodness, the screen cracked and the machine wouldn't turn on. Half stunned by the broken ipad, we divert our attention to visiting Hahndorf which is just 30km from Adelaide city center. It is the oldest german village in OZ. It is a lovely little town, with cafes, beer house, butcher shops, souvenir shops and free bbq picnic area. It is a good place to have a walk if you're using Princes Highway (M1) to Mt Gambier.

There is one very unique bakery, The German Cake Shop which is a must go if you're there. The cafe is decorated with antique clocks, porcelain plates of all designs and most importantly they have quite a selection of breads and cakes. You'll think you're in Germany!

Bee Sting cake for only $2.50. So cheap? Cause it's yday's cake. LOL. Taste quite good though, with lemon cream, sugar & coconut top.

You can visit the Beerenberg farm, which produces jams and chutneys. They also offer strawberries picking.

Salt Creek

Along the coast highway towards Mt Gambier, there is a big area of Coorong National Park. We only stop at its Jacks Point Pelican observation and Salt Creek****. The observation park overlooks the pelican islands where Australian pelicans regularly breed between June and March.  From time to time, there will be groups of pelican flying in a line or V shape back to the islands. Quite a sight!

That day we are quite tired driving, so we stopped at the Coorong Holiday Center for the night. It's a caravan park but the camp site is too far from the amenities. There are only toilets near the camp area without shower. They don't have camp kitchen. It costs $20 for unpowered site. So we think it is better to stay at the national park campsites which are just few minutes further south from this park since the national park campsite has toilet as well.

Yummy croissant brekkie!

We took a hike into the 42 Mile Crossing Beach**, takes about 1 hour return (3km). There's walking trail in the sand dunes towards the beach.

We stopped by at Robe for some refreshing air from the drive. There is a lake here which has many bubbles (like the soap bubbles) surrounding it. It is just so cute. How does it happen? Just like there are some people washing car in the lake.

Saw this beautiful ice cream parlour. The paintings really beautiful, but ice cream is just average. $4.50 for one scoop, $7 for two scoops.

Cheese kransky dinner! Bought from the hahndorf german shop. .
