Good morning Sunshine~! It’s our lucky night as we didn’t
get any fine for camping in a camping prohibited picnic area at Grey River.
Hehe. . .
Our breakfast with added topping of wild blackberries we
plucked along the Great Ocean Road.
The beautiful Great Ocean Road
We proceed on to the town of Lorne****. We went to one of the popular waterfalls in Lorne, Erskine Fall**** which drops 30 metres
into the fern lined valley of Erskine River. Just 10 minutes drive from Lorne,
it is quite a steep drive to reach the area. And it’s a steep walk too! Phew. .
.
Since our Great Ocean Road journey will end today, we
decided to have a swim for the last time at Fair Haven Beach near Aireys Inlet. We are just this close to
heaven -.- LOL We were caught in a rip without realizing it and we are so far
out from the beach when it’s too late. Then we keep swimming parallel with the
shore but waves after waves keep pounding on us hardly. Panicking, we shout for
HELP. Lucky us, there was a surfer nearby who helped us. We swam for quite a
long time holding on to his surf board before being able to get onshore. The
feeling of being able to stand on the ground is just miracle. Our whole body
exhausted from the swim, and we sat down to reflect ourselves on the beach. . .
then this huge grey cloud came and rain start pouring. What a day! Tip for getting
out of the RIP http://firstaid.about.com/od/drowing/ht/07_rip_current.htm
So be careful when swimming in surfing beaches, and if
you’re caught in a rip, do not swim towards the shore. Instead try to swim
parallel to the beach and work your way through.
The city of Geelong, about 76 kms from Melbourne. We stayed
here at the Riverglen Holiday Park before proceeding to Melbourne tomorrow. $28
for unpowered site with very good shower and camp kitchen.
Cute ice cream vendor at Geelong.
The scene of the life threatening ‘ripcurl’ kept rolling in
our minds. With the help of a good coffee and choc mud cake from Panache at Geelong***, our mind eased a lot more
=)
