Our plan was to stop at Melbourne for just a couple of days before moving on to Tasmania to look for casual jobs. Peter’s dad will be coming over to Melbourne for holiday, so we planned to travel around Melbourne only then. Besides trying to fix the broken IPAD in Melb, we also have a dinner date with a patron at Madura when we’re working there. His name is Mr David. Turned up, he invited us to stay at his house! Gosh, that’s just an unbelievable kind gesture. Inviting a couple you barely know to stay with you. David and his family stayed in Kuala Lumpur for 2 years, and once he met Peter in Madura, he invited us for dinner because Malaysians have helped him a lot. How lucky of us!
Our 2 days plan became a week stay in Melb. The ferry (Spirit of Tasmania) tickets to Tasmania have been sold out and it’s not available for another 4 days. If you are travelling to Tasmania by ferry, be sure to buy the ticket early!
Had a walk at Chadstone Shopping Centre, located at Dandenong Road. We came here cause we wanted to fix the IPAD. But eventually, we decided to delay the repair as we need to use the GPS software in the IPAD.
Tried Indian curry rice at the food court (stall name is ChilliMama) @ Chadstone Shopping Mall. Gosh, taste real good!
Our dinner with Peter’s Dad’s college friend. Hehe. Chinta Ria Malaysian restaurant$$ at St Kilda. The Char Kuey Teow is delicious. We also ordered Ayam Kelantan and Assam Prawn. Satisfying dinner! Thanks John! =)
Melbourne people working too hard???
With David, Anne and Caroline at Jim’s Greek Tavern$$***** (located at Collingwood). A great Greek seafood dinner, flavours we have never tasted before!
Flinders Street Station
The place we went the most in Melb : State Library of Victoria
Melbourne Central, just opposite the library. Had lunch of ice cream pancakes at The Pancake Parlour. We got a coupon for ‘buy one free one’ at the Information Centre in the ‘This Week in Melb’ booklet =)
The road sign which is unique in Melbourne. A ‘Hook Turn’. This is how it works:
1. Approach and enter the intersection from as near as possible to the left. If there is insufficient room to enter the intersection due to other cars waiting to hook-turn then you must wait until the next cycle of the lights.
2. Move forward, keeping clear of any marked foot crossing, until your vehicle is as near as possible to the far side of the road that you are entering.
3. Remain at the position reached under Step 2 until the traffic lights on the road you are entering have changed togreen.
4. Turn right into the road and continue straight ahead. Cars on the cross road must give way to hook-turning traffic before commencing through the intersection.
Lookout for trams when driving in the city!
Old Tram running the free city loop. We bought a 5 days daily Metcard ($32.80) for taking the public trams, train and buses in the city which is cheaper than buying a daily one at the Information Centre.
