We learned a lot
about the aboriginal cultures and law here because we followed a free
guided Mala walk and free story telling at Ayers Rock Town Square.
The aboriginals have a fair marriage system where men and women can
have many wife/ girlfriends/husbands / boyfriends in different tribal
area. But men must supply food (by hunting) to their wives and her
community.
The women blood
is stronger, so the kids will stay with their mother instead of
father. Daughters will be taught the women business like gathering
bush food, cooking & etc by their aunties and grandmothers
instead of their own mother. Same, the boys will be taught how to
hunt by their uncles and grandfathers. This is because the parents
love for their children is so strong.
The most
knowledgeable man and woman becomes the leader of the tribe, because
they have spiritual powers and they will pass on knowledge through
storytelling and songs.
Bad people in the
tribe who commit acts of stealing or raping will be punished
accordingly, like breaking his hand or spearing. After they have
received the punishment, they will be accepted into the community
equally again.
The aboriginals
have lived in this land for thousands of years before the Europeans
call it their land. The aboriginals have deep connections with their
land; they know where to find food and during what season even in the
harshest environment like this desert.
So we have seen ULURU and we are satisfied to move on with our driving again. Towards Darwin we goOO!
