Wild Camel @ Uluru-Kata-Tjuta National Park
Finally we made
it to ULURU!! Driving 2800+kms to Uluru from Cairns! Of course we have to do this, like all other people who flew from all around the world to see it. Uluru is Australia's world heritage site because of its
spectacular geological formations, rare plants and animals and
cultural values. They have a good cultural center which explains how
the aboriginals manage and respect this land and why.
By the time we reach Ayers Rock Campground @ Yulara it was 3pm. It is the only
place to camp around Uluru and we paid $41 for a powered site. It takes about 15 minutes to reach Ayers
Rock from the campground. Some people would just hire bicycle from
the campground and explore the area by wheels =) The entrance fee to
Uluru-Kata Tjuta National park is $25 entrance fee per person (valid for 3 days) which
can be purchased at the park entrance.
So for today, we will not visit Uluru first, but to Kata-Tjuta aka The Olgas*****. It is about 50kms from Uluru. Kata Tjuta means 'many
heads'.
Valley of the Winds walk. This is a 7.4 kms walk, so we only walk till the lookout which is 1.1km from the carpark. This walk will be closed if the weather reaches 36 degree celcius.
Walpa Gorge Walk, an hour walk.... We still have time to fool around before rushing to view sunset. =P
The sunset at Kata Tjuta Dune Viewing is really good.
Nice hair Pete..
Uluru can be seen at Kata Tjuta Dune Viewing as well... Tomorrow we will see the ULURU real upclose!
Like this picture! Captured after sunset. You can understand why it's called Kata tjuta (many heads) now right... hehe...
